Exploring Southern Bulgarian Sea Shore
Benefiting from an extended May 1st weekend, I decided to go and explore the southern Bulgarian sea shore since it was an objective I had in mind for quite some time.
So I’ve convinced some friends to join me and we drove all the way to Primorsko, where we established our weekend headquarters.
The first day, after a quick tour of Sozopol, we visited Beglik Tash, a set of monolith blocks that used to host Thracian religious ceremonies.
Edit: Forgot to mention that here we met with Doru Panaitescu’s team exploring the Ropotamo Delta, he may be able to identify some of the birds illustrated below :).
Being tired from the trip, we called it a night after Beglik Tash and just enjoyed a wonderful sunset from the balcony of our rented apartment (Gardenia Apartments).
The second day we stayed around Primorsko area as we wanted to explore in more depth the forested peninsula where Beglik Tash was located. We found a lots of nice off road tracks that lead us to quite amazing places.
On Saturday we went on to explore south of Primorsko, towards the Bulgarian – Turkish border.
We explored Tsarevo (nice place for scuba diving), Ahtopol, Sinemorets (where Veleka river flows into the Black Sea) and went all the way to Resovo and Silistar.
If you are a wild life photographer you will find a huge number of species (especially birds) that live or pass through these areas all throughout the year.

Off season, all these places were almost deserted, so they provided an eerie environment in which the only sounds surrounding us were the birds chirping and the sea waves crashing against the shore.
In the season these places are probably more crowded, but I am sure that some of these locations are remote and hard to reach enough that you will be able to find a peaceful place where to retreat for a couple of days and just enjoy nature at its best.
